"Over the past 10 years, initially my portraits were paintings of faces cropped at brow and chin. I used gestural drawing, maze-like spaces, grids, and evocative color combinations to convey the cognitive and emotional states of my subjects. I envisioned painting living, thinking, flesh-and-blood beings whose cogitative expressions could foster an instant human connection with the viewer.
My innate desire to paint the portrait was informed by my 20 years of work practicing and teaching Anatomic Pathology at Harvard Medical School. Subsequently, I created abstracted representational portraits in Provincetown, MA, where most of my subjects came from the the GLBT community. Since 2018 these paintings have transitioned from facial portraits to full-figured portraits of families, depicting parents with their children”.
